We are pleased to invite you to participate in a national academic and teaching conference devoted to negotiation processes in foreign language education from the perspectives of teachers and learners. Teaching and learning languages involve the continuous negotiation of meanings, goals, roles, strategies and relationships. Negotiation takes place both in direct communication, including dealing with misunderstandings and uncertainty, and in decisions concerning learning approaches, the resources used and the ways in which language is used. The conference will provide a forum for reflection on what teachers and learners negotiate, how they negotiate it, what resources they draw on and how these processes affect foreign language teaching and learning.

The event will take place on 5 March 2027 at the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (CINiBA) in Katowice. This is the eleventh edition of a conference series dedicated to current issues in glottodidactics, organised annually in spring by the Foreign Language Teaching Centre (SPNJO) of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers and language teaching practitioners and to explore how negotiation processes shape teacher–learner relationships and influence the course and outcomes of language education. We warmly welcome all those interested in this area, including foreign language teachers, language instructors, specialists, researchers and students.

The programme will include plenary lectures, individual presentations in thematic sessions and practical workshops. We invite contributions addressing such topics as negotiating meaning, emotions and beliefs in communication, mediation, pragmatic competence, learner autonomy and agency, as well as translanguaging and multilingualism. Other areas of interest include the negotiation of roles and responsibilities in the language classroom, approaches to learning, feedback practices, and the use of artificial intelligence and digital resources in language teaching and learning. We welcome presentations of research findings, theoretical reflections and tried-and-tested teaching practices.

Presentations in thematic sessions will last 30 minutes, including a 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes for discussion. Plenary lectures and workshops will last 60 minutes. The conference languages will include Polish, English and other languages. Following the closing session, participants will be invited to enjoy an artistic programme and continue their conversations in an informal atmosphere. As in previous years, a post-conference publication is planned to be published by the University of Silesia Press (WUŚ).

The conference is held under the patronage of the Polish Rectors Foundation, the Association of Academic Language Centers SERMO, the journal Języki Obce w Szkole and Klett, MMPublications, Pearson, NGLearning and OUP publishing houses.

The cost of full participation in the conference (including presentation and possibility
of publishing an article in the planned monograph published by University of Silesia
Publishing House) is 450 PLN, the cost of participation without
presentation and publication is 320 PLN.
Payments should be sent to the account 74 1050 1214 1000 0007 0000 7909 adding in the
description of the payment SPNJO2027 conference number and name of the participant.
